Best-Effort Research Profile

Tesamorelin is a synthetic GHRH analog and the first (and to date only) FDA-approved treatment for HIV-associated lipodystrophy, approved in 2010 as Egrifta and reformulated as Egrifta SV (2019) and the concentrated Egrifta WR. Two pooled Phase 3 randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trials (N=806) demonstrated a statistically significant ~15.4% reduction in visceral adipose tissue and waist circumference versus placebo at 26 weeks in HIV-infected patients with excess abdominal fat.

Source review pending. This descriptive profile is shown from the available source material as a best-effort educational reference. It has not passed the full verification bar and is not a dosing instruction, medical claim, or treatment recommendation.

Context: current EGRIFTA WR prescribing information

Formulation: Route-specific sterile formulation and professional handling requirements apply; concentration cannot be inferred from an oral or topical product.

Route safety: Use only in the cited label or guideline context; route, formulation, indication, and patient-specific limits still apply.

Do not convert an amount between routes. Bioavailability, formulation, sterility, monitoring, and clinical context differ by route. Research-use context only; independently verify every cited source.

Research Notes

Approved only to reduce excess abdominal fat in adults with HIV and lipodystrophy; it is not indicated for weight-loss management. The older 2 mg EGRIFTA SV presentation and current WR product are not dose-interchangeable.

Supplementary research context only. Not medical advice or a treatment recommendation.
