Catalog Description

SS-31 (elamipretide) is a cell-permeable peptide that binds reversibly to cardiolipin in the inner mitochondrial membrane, stabilizing membrane structure and supporting electron-transport-chain function. In September 2025 the FDA granted accelerated approval to elamipretide (brand name Forzinity) to improve muscle strength in adult and pediatric patients (>=30kg) with Barth syndrome - an ultra-rare (~150 patients in the US) TAFAZZIN-mutation mitochondrial cardioskeletal disease - making it the first FDA-approved mitochondria-targeted therapeutic. Continued approval is contingent on confirmatory trial results. SS-31/elamipretide has also been studied in Phase II/III trials for heart failure and primary mitochondrial myopathy, giving it far more human clinical-trial data than most research peptides in this catalog.

Catalog descriptions reflect research context only. Not a medical claim or treatment recommendation.

Research Notes

SS-31 is elamipretide. The record now includes four distinct tested human regimens and notes mixed efficacy rather than presenting one generic 0.01-0.25 mg/kg/day range.

Supplementary research context only. Not medical advice or a treatment recommendation.
