Researched for: Humanin preclinical therapeutic evidence
Also known as: HN peptide
Humanin is a 21-amino-acid peptide encoded within the mitochondrial 16S ribosomal RNA gene region. It exhibits cytoprotective and anti-apoptotic activity, and a related engineered analog (HumaninS14G) along with the related mitochondrial-derived peptide SHLP2 have both demonstrated chaperone-like activity - directly binding misfolded, seeding-capable islet amyloid polypeptide (IAPP) species and blocking amyloid seeding (relevant to type 2 diabetes research), without binding normal IAPP monomers. Humanin has also been studied in reproductive (testis) biology contexts.

The five duplicate 1 mg daily SC entries were unsupported and removed. Reviews describe Humanin and HNG as preclinical therapeutic candidates and note unresolved cancer-progression and chemoresistance questions.
